My Reiki Journey

Reiki came into my awareness a decade ago when a friend from Chicago did her first Reiki 1 course and excitedly told me about this new superpower that she had unlocked in her body. At the time, this seemed ridiculous and didn't compute in my world of logic and science. However, as good friends do, I listened and allowed her to send me some Reiki. Honestly, I didn't think much of it but a few years later she moved to Melbourne and decided to pursue Reiki further. At the time, I was in a rocky relationship and also battling chronic low back pain that had persisted from a car accident in my late teens. I was sick and tired of taking so many medications and so she suggested I visit Melbourne and get a healing from her Reiki Master. I thought "Well, it couldn't hurt... what do I have to lose?" and so I booked a flight trusting my friend wouldn't lead me astray.

That first time receiving Reiki was intense. I can't remember a time in my life where I cried and let go of so much internally held pain and trauma. I spent two hours with this man receiving Reiki, comforted by his healing hands and discussing personal details of my life like long lost friends. I walked out of there walking on water. My back pain had subsided and my head was clear on what to do about the relationship. I went for a run later that afternoon and noticed EVERYONE turned their head to look at me. I didn't realise it at the time, but the Reiki I had received also cleaned up my aura and I was shining bright - and a bright light attracts others. 

Fast forward a month and Brian Wann, the Reiki Master, was hosting a Reiki 1 course. I signed up and thought it a good excuse to see my friend again. The first day my logical mind was still fighting what was happening, but on day two the puzzle pieces suddenly fit together and I could feel - really feel - energy and heat coming out of my hands with intention. Holy sh*t! It really was an unlocked superpower. 

Over the following six years I practiced Reiki on myself and others, further mastering the energy healing modality and building confidence with my own clients. As the mind quieted, I found psychic gifts begin to open up coming in the form of guidance, words, images and knowings beyond the physical senses. I finished my apprenticeship and teacher training under Brian Wann in 2019, six generations from the modern founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui.  

Reiki and the accompanying spiritual development it facilitated changed me in so many positive ways, but most importantly I have been called to teach and share this god-given gift with those who seek it. I take on clients and offer Reiki courses for those interested in receiving the traditional Usui teachings but with a modern bent. My focus is on building a reiki community of heart-centred individuals, where mentoring and support go well beyond a two-day course.
